Flutes (Meigan, Ava, and Jade)

What we did
  • open flute sounds: Establishing embouchure and correct air stream for good sound
  • Playing a sustained sound for a whole note followed by 4 counts of rest
  • Proper posture and hand position
  • Holding the flute in proper posture, pressing the keys to play Bb and performing with the previous rhythm pattern.
  • Holding the flute in proper posture, pressing the keys to play C and performing with the previous rhythm pattern.

Concepts include: embouchure, aperture, whole note/rest, beat, tempo, measure

What to do
  • Play lines 2 and 4 in the book and establish the following:
    • Correct pitches/fingerings
    • Establish consistent steady tempo
    • Start each note with a "Ha-Too" articulation
    • Begin to establish proper tone quality
    • Establish consistent proper posture

Looking Ahead
  • Learning the fingering for D and playing the note with acceptable tone quality (Line 1 on page 6)
  • Playing combinations of whole note/rest patterns using Bb, C, and D (lines 3, 5-7)

  • Playing Concert C on the instrument as it correlates to line 2 of the book.
  • Playing Concert Bb on the instrument as it correlates to line 3 of the book.
  • Played line 7 to achieve proficiency or mastery level
  • Looked ahead at line 8-10

What to do
  • Practice playing whole note rhythms that do not have a whole rest in between. (lines 8-10)
    • Correct pitches/fingerings
    • Establish consistent steady tempo
    • Start each note with a "Ha-Too" articulation
    • Begin to establish proper tone quality
    • Establish consistent proper posture

  • Playing half notes with a proper and consistent legato articulation (lines 11-14)

What to do
  • Practice lines 8-10: read and play consecutive measures with quarter notes. (2 measures of quarter notes before a measure of rest)
